The B.A.D. B.I.T.C.H. Framework: 8 Traits That Prove You've Already Made It

Think about the last time you had a great idea in a meeting, said it out loud, and watched the guy next to you repeat it thirty seconds later and get the credit. My guest this week, Dr. Syreeta Rios, spent years being that woman. Quiet in the room, dressed to blend in, watching her ideas get reassigned to someone else. Then she stopped shrinking, and she has not looked back since.

Dr. Syreeta walked into corporate America with the bachelor's, the MBA, and the PMP, and a hiring manager still told her, "I don't think you can handle the questions." So she stopped asking for permission. She networked around the gatekeepers, went and got the roles herself, and built a career that took her from banks in Delaware to conference rooms in Atlanta to a three-year assignment in Dubai. Today she's an Afro-Latina tech executive with a doctorate, a 2024 International Impact Book Award winner, founder of the Bad Bitch Boardroom, host of the Professional Bad Bitch Podcast, and author of Unleash Your Inner Bad Bitch. She means every word of the title.

So what is the B.A.D. B.I.T.C.H. framework? It's an acronym, and Dr. Syreeta's whole point is that it describes women who already qualify: Brave, Ambitious, Determined, Bold, Intelligent, Talented, Creative, Heroic. Her rule is simple. If you have even three to five of those traits, you are already a bad bitch, and it's time to take credit for it.

That "take credit for it" part is the whole ballgame, and there's data underneath it. In a study published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, researchers Christine Exley and Judd Kessler found that women describe their own ability and performance less favorably than men who perform exactly the same, and the gap holds even when there is zero incentive to hold back. That's not a confidence problem you imagined. It's a documented pattern. Dr. Syreeta lived the corporate version of it, watching credit for her ideas walk across the table.

The system reinforces it too. The 2025 Lean In and McKinsey Women in the Workplace report found that for every 100 men promoted to manager, only 93 women get that same first step up, and just 74 women of color. So when Dr. Syreeta says the credentials weren't enough and she had to go get it herself, she isn't being dramatic. She's describing the broken rung that has held for more than a decade.

Then there's the guilt. Dr. Syreeta became a mom during COVID, went through a divorce, and had an ex-husband tell her she was "putting her job before her family" while she ran back-to-back meetings with a one-year-old in the house. Her reframe is the one so many of us need. The things that fill you up do not need to be justified to anyone. And the science is on her side. Harvard Business School professor Kathleen McGinn found that adult daughters of working mothers earn about 23% more and are more likely to hold supervisory roles than daughters of moms who stayed home. Your ambition isn't costing your kids. It's showing them what's possible.

If you have been shrinking to fit rooms that were never built for you, this one is your permission slip. Dr. Syreeta walks through the traits, the guilt audit, and why every woman is already running her life like a billion-dollar project. By the end, you'll stop asking whether you qualify and start taking credit for the fact that you already do.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does the B.A.D. B.I.T.C.H. framework stand for?

It's an acronym Dr. Syreeta Rios uses to describe the traits she says most ambitious women already have: Brave, Ambitious, Determined, Bold, Intelligent, Talented, Creative, and Heroic. Her rule is that if you have even three to five of those qualities, you already qualify. The whole point of the framework is to get women to stop waiting for permission and start taking credit for who they already are.

Do working mothers hurt their kids' futures?

The research says the opposite. Harvard Business School professor Kathleen McGinn studied more than 100,000 people across dozens of countries and found that adult daughters of working mothers earn about 23% more and are more likely to hold supervisory roles than daughters of moms who stayed home, while their sons take on more caregiving at home. Kids of working moms also report being just as happy in adulthood. So the mom guilt so many women carry is not backed by the data.

How is being a project manager a life skill for women?

Dr. Syreeta Rios argues that the core project management frameworks, scope, stakeholder, and communication management, map directly onto real life. If you plan events, run a household, coordinate a birth, or manage a career pivot, you are already doing the work of a project manager. Naming it that way helps women see the skills they already have and use them on purpose to get ahead.

Hi, I'm Erica!

In the last 15 years, I climbed to Chief People Officer, 6x'd my income, walked away from a culture that stopped matching my values, wrote two books, and built HER Collective to help thousands of women rise to power and lead in the age of AI. I've learned a thing or two about smashing ceilings and closing gaps, and Glass Ceilings & Sticky Floors is where I open the playbook, the receipts, and the real stories to share it all with you.
